Could you provide some information about yourself and your scientific background, including previous studies and degrees you have obtained?
My name is Andrea Rukavina. I am 30 years old and originally from Rijeka, Croatia. I completed my bachelor’s degree in food science and nutrition and a master’s in biotechnology at the University of Ljubljana.
Could you describe your scientific research and previous projects, listing your key expertise and skills?
In recent years, my scientific research has centred on applying mass spectrometry and quantitative proteomics to study complex biological systems. Key projects include developing a method based on peptide mapping for monitoring protein quality attributes as part of my master’s thesis project at Novartis and later focusing on multiple chemoproteomic projects within the Winter Lab at CeMM in Vienna. These experiences have enhanced my expertise in analysing biological data and contributed to advancements in biomedical and pharmaceutical research.
What was the motivation for joining the Eco2Wine project?
I have awaited an opportunity to embark on a PhD journey that aligns with my interests, particularly in environmental microbiome research. Hailing from a family steeped in winemaking tradition, I am eager to delve into microbial interactions within winemaking ecosystems, promoting sustainability and innovation.
What is the motivation and aim of your PhD project?
My PhD project aims to characterise grape microbiota through metagenomics studies, providing a foundation for building a holistic understanding of microbial interplay within grape ecosystems. The topic aligns with my passion for exploring biological systems and resonates with my familial legacy in winemaking, driving my dedication to advancing sustainability and fostering wine innovation.
Could you write a few sentences about yourself, your hobbies, and your interests?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature with friends and family. I have a passion for music, concerts, and dancing. My favourite hobbies include hiking and cycling. Additionally, I indulge in analogue photography while travelling.
